Why would you hire me as your trainer?
1) I am 200%-600% higher than other training options. Big Box dog training places are not dog training at all..beware...even traditional dog training classroom settings are not Real World applications and can give dog owners a very false sense of your dogs obedience level.
2) I do not use food or clickers or other "positive" methods of traditional training as 95% of trainers do. Though this does not mean I am harsh at all. If anything my methods are the least "invasive" of other dog training methods. Food training may work for some but I find that when training dogs in the real world with lots of distractions there is many more effective ways.
3)I did not go to school or hold any accreditation from any dog training schools. I have seen the robotic trainers that come out of these schools and they do not know how to think for themselves, they do not understand how to problem solve. They all read from the same book. Most dog trainers do not understand the basic structure of a dog pack or a human pack and how to incorporate dogs into the lives of humans. I
4) I have only been professionally training dogs since 2006 and most trainers seem to be have doing it since the 1980's. Why is it that every trainer that I meet has been doing dog training for 20 years. I also find that just because someone has been doing something for 20 years that does not make them good. Do you realize that 90% of the physicians practicing today graduated in the bottom 50% of their graduating class.
5) I don't need to meet your dog in order to see if I can train it, while others need to assess your dog first..Your dog is most likely badly behaved or lacks proper social, coping and obedience skills and can be resolved in relatively the same manner as the next dog with some small tweaks. I am not sure if this makes me foolish or confident.
6)Most dog trainers belong to the APDT a national organization for dog trainers. I quit after one year realizing that the organization makes it worse for dog owners and is a disservice to the industry and gives dog owners false hope since anyone can join if they pay the $125.00 yearly fee. It is like belonging to the PTA of your school system. It does not make you a good parent.
7)I refuse to use head halters or body halters on dogs as most trainers and behaviorists as well as vets recommend, I find those head halters some of the worst ideas ever and never trained a dog to do anything. You should not be going to your vet for dog training help anyway nor should you be going to me for any medical advise. I am always puzzled by the well known vet school up in Boston that makes you fill out a 16 page questionnaire pay $475.00 and then when you meet with them they tell you about a head harness. That just shows the lack of basic understanding in Real World training.
8)I have been called very cocky by many...all my life I was told I was confident in what I do...I never realized that when people were threatened by my abilities they would turn that around and call it cockiness.
9) I always find it funny that people love to drill myself and my staff about my schooling credentials. What they are implying is that without them I do not know what I am doing and there is no way I could be a good dog trainer. Well the results are the proof. Dog training is a results oriented job. I am a fixer. You have a problem with your dog, I fix it, I fix you. 80% of dog training is people training.
Why would you want to hire me as your trainer?
I don't look at dog training as a set of tricks to be rewarded with food or bribed to do, but a lifestyle for you and your dog. My goal is to have all dogs that enter my training program be off leash trained and the methods of training that I do will lead to that.
I don't not do this as a part time gig, this is my life 7 days a week 365 days a year. I work with more dogs 1 on 1 than any other dog trainer in RI. I live with a pack of dogs 24/7/365, they live on my property. I observe dog pack behavior everyday. I am the only dog trainer in RI that I am aware of that has its own training pack.
My goal is to have every dog off leash trained so you can find the true spirit in your dog and my training methods lead you down that path.
To me a well trained dog is not one that can run through tunnels, jump through rings or up and down ramps. It is not a dog that can give you its paw or roll over or dance. It is one that can listen and understand what is expected of the dog in all situations.
I will never use the breed of your dog as an excuse for bad behavior...ie: You have a terrier, that is why it bites at your ankles....NO your dog bites at your ankles because it is not trained and treats you like a dog not a human.....or.....your dog lunges at people because it is nervous and is trying to protect you.....no.....your dog lunges at you because it is badly trained and is behaving badly.
I will never give up on your dog....I will never turn you down as a client because of the behavior of your dog......I am a dog trainer and rehabilitater and I can handle any behavior and training issue no matter how big and how small. I never understood dogs that get kicked out of dog training classes because of the behavior that they have. Isn't this why the dog owner enrolled in the school and isn't it the professional obligation of the trainer to train the dog as well as the owner.
I belong to the IACP which is a dog training organization that supports my belief that whatever it takes to train a dog both on leash and off leash, near and far is acceptable. This makes much more sense since a food based training program might not work for you and your dog and the situation that you are in.
I practice what I preach...I don't just talk the talk....I also walk the walk...
A daily 10 dog power walk on Blackstone Blvd in Providence. 3 miles of intense training will tire out the pack both mentally an physically and this is before we even start obedience training for the day. You need to be in incredible touch with the primal energy of a dog in order to do this. All it takes is a small imbalance of energy and there will be a dog fight within the pack. Some of these dogs do not get along. Some of these dogs are dog aggressive. I am not a dog walker but a dog trainer, there is a big difference. I walk the dogs the dogs don't walk me.
I am baffled by trainers that actually won't physically show how to properly walk a dog and they make a big production out of loose leash walking...well...this was taken of my pack on Blackstone Blvd in Providence, it was in the middle of a 3 mile power walk......I think I can train you to walk your dog without pulling, lunging or barking and to properly Heel on a leash...my methods are real world and practical...hey...i have a busy life to and want to be able to walk my dogs...If the dog trainer you hire cannot get you to properly walk your dog within the first 60 minutes and be successful at it...then run don't walk to the closest exit and get yourself another one.
